President Eisenhower's Birthplace on the Information Superhighway...

On the mornimg of October 14, 1890, Dwight David Eisenhower was born in a modest two-story frame house at the corner of Lamar and Day streets in east Denison, Texas. Ike was the only one of David and Ida Eisenhower's seven children born in Texas. The future leader of the free world in war and peace was born in a railroad neighborhood, with the family home nestled within a few yards of three railroad lines.

Hours of Operation


Eisenhower's Birthplace is open seven days a week, year round, with the exception of Christmas Day, Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.
Park hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Park


Eisenhower Birthplace State Historical park now encompasses approximately ten acres of the Eisenhower neighborhood featuring wooded acres, historic buildings, creeks, railroad trails, hiking paths, flowers, picnic sites and other amenities. The focal point of the park is the historic home, which is furnished with Eisenhower family possessions and period antiques.
Visitors receive a guided tour through the birthplace home and can also arrange for a customized, guided "Ike Hike" through the railroad trails, creek areas and wooded sections of the park. The park's visitors center displays hundreds of items related to the history of the birthplace. Also featured is a video resource room where visitors can watch any one of dozens of videotapes relating to Eisenhower's role in World War 11, civil rights, the presidency, railroad history and other topics. The center also has a bookstore and gift shop.

Special Events


Eisenhower Birthplace hosts several special events in the park and elsewhere in Denison each year. Annual celebrations include President's Day in February, Earth Day in April, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Eisenhower's Birthday, Veteran's Day and other events.
